Movie: Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001)
Mark Darcy: I like you, very much.
Bridget: Ah, apart from the smoking and the drinking, the vulgar mother and… ah, the verbal diarrhea.

Perhaps more romantic than someone outright professing their undying love for you is someone telling you how much they like you, and just how. But it’s only especially romantic when you and the other person both know very well this “liking” business is really a cover for the real stuff.

Anyone who has yet to understand Ryan Gosling’s appeal must see this movie (how could they have waited this long?!) and listen to his passionate delivery of this line. No matter the circumstances of your relationship, isn’t this essentially what everyone wants to hear from the one they love?

Bob: I don’t want to leave.
Charlotte: So don’t. Stay here with me. We’ll start a jazz band.

Is there anything more magical (and romantic) than finding a kindred soul in a fancy hotel bar, in a lonely city, in a country halfway across the world where you both don’t speak the native tongue? This is the case for Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson) and Bob (Bill Murray), fellow Americans from different life backgrounds who become fast friends. This electric line works like a charm because it’s just about the highest compliment: I don’t know you very well yet but I really like your energy.
Movie: Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
The only way you can beat my crazy was by doing something crazy yourself. Thank you. I love you. I knew it the minute I met you. I’m sorry it took so long for me to catch up. I just got stuck.
