Delighted overall
I am not a watch geek. I’ve worn the same Citizen automatic every day since the early 90s. I saw a wooden watch bracelet, and, intrigued, followed up on wooden watches, discovering Treehut. For the novelty, I bought an inexpensive quartz model with a wooden case and bracelet. But the Immortal line of automatics really caught me. I forgot to get myself anything for a recent milestone birthday and decided this would be it. The Immortal Automatic in ebony wood and blue stainless is better-looking IRL than online. The ebony is a rich 85% cacao dark chocolate brown and the blue is not bright or shiny as in the photos, but a subtly deep and rich indigo, befitting the origins of the Miyota movement. From a distance the two can look the same, but up close they really pop. The over-sized case is also over-thick, which, with the automatic mechanical movement, gives the watch a significant heft. In a solid, reassuring way, like it was chiseled from solid iron. It’s not in hand-weight territory, but I don’t think I’ll ever forget when I have it on. I’ve wanted an exhibition case ever since I heard of them. I’ve very pleased with this one. I could do without the circle around the escapement and the bar blocking the view at three o’clock, but you can’t have everything. You have to put the branding somewhere, and I’m getting used to them. Of all the Immortal Automatics, what made me pick this one is the contrast between the hands and the machinery inside. I have vision contrast issues with both light on light and dark on dark. The dark hands with light stripes means I can always see the time, no matter the lighting or position of the hands. This is surprising hard to find, and I returned one wooden Treehut wooden quartz watch when I just couldn’t read it. The fact I like the color combo of brown and indigo is just icing on the cake. My only suggestion (and the only reason I down-rate craftsmanship to 4) would be to ditch the standard mineral glass for a real sapphire crystal. At this price point, a few more dollars wouldn’t be a stretch. I won’t be buying one of those stick-on screen protector-like things. The watch is too nice to junk it up like that. When I inevitably scratch the glass, I’ll take it to a jeweler and have a sapphire crystal fitted.
My Boyfriend Loves It!
I bought this watch as a gift for my boyfriend and he absolutely loves it. It fit perfectly right out of the box. The watch is beautifully crafted and very lightweight. We also love that there is no battery to keep replacing.
