People of Treehut: In Search of Old Souls with Bridget Farhat | Creating Memories With Wood Watch

wanderlust by heart

Signs from the universe, mysterious vibrations, and the infinite abyss. As a self-proclaimed “wanderlust by heart,” Bridget Farhat (@blissful_lola) is always paying attention. “Exuberant by nature,” she carries the kind of magnetic energy you want to be around in hopes that some of it rub off on you. At the time of our chat, she was undergoing a major life change, moving from her native Michigan. She's now happily making a new home with her boyfriend Josh in music capital Austin, Texas, where she also recently celebrated a birthday.

What’s your story? Where did you grow up and what were your hobbies and obsessions growing up? Where do you call home now?

I grew up in Haslett/East Lansing, MI. My hobbies growing up were acting, singing, dancing and then, of course, sports (mainly lacrosse).

When I graduated High School I went to college at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI. After a few years of attending and dropping out 3 times, I figured it was probably in my best interest to stop going to College. School just never felt like it was for me. So, I got a job at a new music venue that opened up in Grand Rapids, MI, called 20 Monroe Live and starting pursuing my passion for music. I have not returned back to college and I am dead-set on making a living without a degree!

Do you have a favorite set of words or quotes you keep close to the heart?

My boyfriend introduced me to this one and then got it tattooed on himself, but it holds such an impactful meaning and it plays in my head every day. It goes, “Forget the risk, take the fall, if it’s what you want, then it’s worth it all.” Basically meaning, go after what your heart wants and what makes you feel fulfilled. Don’t follow what everyone else tells you to do because, at the end of the day, we live for ourselves and no one else. And what’s the point of living this awesome life if we aren’t happy and fulfilled!

If you were able to live to the age of 90 and retain either the mind or body of a 30-year-old for the last 60 years of your life, which would you want?

I would absolutely, 100% retain the body of a 30-year-old for the last 60 years of my life because I would have all the wisdom in the world, but still be young and healthy enough to be able to do the things I enjoy the most!

What do you search for in other people?

I search for old souls, people who think like me, are kind-spirited, selfless, self-loving, appreciative, and able to hold a mature conversation. I am only 21 years old and I have always been told that I am an old soul, so when I find people that are older than me or like me in some way, it is really refreshing, because most kids my age can’t socialize unless they are talking through a cell phone lol!

What do most people not know about you?

When I was younger my dad nicknamed me Froggy because when my parents put me in the bath, I started to swim how frogs do and they thought it was the funniest thing ever!

If you could wake up tomorrow having gained any one quality or ability, what would it be?

I would love to wake up and have the ability to speak different languages so that  when I begin to travel it would be a lot easier to communicate with other people!

Who, or what inspires you most?

I’ve met a lot of inspiring, amazing, kind-hearted individuals in my lifetime. Some of those people have become really close friends of mine, but there is one in particular that completely changed my life when I met him. His name is Joshua Guiles. He and I were introduced through a mutual friend and our story is kind of funny, but I will skip to the part where he became the most inspiring person in my life.

We hung out one night and he said the best things a person has ever said to me that made me feel something no one has ever made me feel. He told me how special I was and made me believe in myself again. His story was similar to mine, about dropping out of school, defying what everyone else thought, and now he has his own media company, works with massive clients, etc, etc. He made me believe anything was possible if we just believe in ourselves.

The way he talked to me that night was a huge turning point for me. He got me to see how special I really was and made me excited to go through this crazy journey called life. And I will always hold that memory close to me because that was the moment I fell in love with my best friend :) And now we’re actually dating! But he is the most inspiring person because of his story, who he is as a person, and how he makes everyone who comes into contact with him feel like the most amazing person. He knows how to make you feel different and worth it, and for that, he is my everyday inspiration!

What’s the nicest thing anyone’s ever done for you?

This is a tough one, but I have to give a huge shoutout to my parents! First, my mom. In middle school and high school, whenever I asked her to bring me my favorite sandwich from my favorite place she would! She also would always call me out of school if I asked her too lol! Second, my dad, for coming to every single Lacrosse game I ever had. No matter where it was, he was always there! I love them :)
