Mango Tree Producing Fruit Mangoes | by Tree Hut Wooden Watches

1. What is Mango Wood?

Mango trees, famous for producing globs of juicy perfection, usually lose their fruit bearing capacity after about 15 to 20 years, after which the wood is harvested. Mango trees produce a lot of wood. In just 20 years, they can reach 130 feet in the air and a trunk size of over 12 feet!

The mango tree itself was domesticated in India over 4,000 years ago (its scientific name, Mangifera indica, pays homage to its Indian roots). In contemporary Buddhist culture, the tree symbolizes happiness and good fortune.

2. Is Mango Wood Durable?

Mango wood may be a newcomer to the commercial manufacturing industry, but it's quickly growing in popularity among retailers and consumers alike. That's because of its highly sustainable nature. The mango tree, like bamboo, grows rapidly and in abundance. It's a versatile plant that can withstand all variations in tropical climate, living in regions as diverse as the Caribbean, Southern Europe, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines. Also, because of the growing consumer demand for mangoes, there is heavy demand for mango trees. Mango wood is quite the fruitful byproduct.

 3. What is the Texture of Mango Wood?

Mango wood's texture is certainly unique. Though a densely grained hardwood, it's also relatively soft. This unique texture makes mango wood malleable enough to construct all sorts of furniture. Plus, special tools are not needed to work with it, thus reducing production costs and making it a more affordable material. Its wood grain is truly one-of-a-kind!

4. What Color is Mango Wood?

All wood is naturally beautiful, no doubt (#WoodPride)...but mango wood is particularly vibrant in color and grain quality. Though naturally light brown, it boasts ribbons of gold and pink, and fine lines of black. The mango wood on this Tree Hut watch, for example, harbors splotches of gold:

5. Does Mango Wood Float?

Actually, all wood floats. Wood floats because it's less dense than the water it floats on. There is more air in wood, as it gets trapped in-between the fibers, which makes it extremely buoyant. Just think about Archimedes Principle: the upward buoyant force exerted on something immersed in liquid is equal to the weight of the liquid that it displaces.
